I wrote to Ray and here is his reply: Dear Peter You don't know what a delight it was to receive your letter! I had supposed that CCW was in complete disuse. I would be Yery pleased to join your group and to contribute to it. VE3DPB, K7KK and W39VC had CCW stations operating in the 'old days' and they say also enjoy a fresh try at it. Have you considered putting out a bulletin on the worldwide packet radio network announcing the existence of the group and your newsletter and inviting participation. I have many of the old papers and some of the original equipment. I also have a functioning sicroprocessor-based narrowband receiving filter which greatly outperforms the original design. You will be receiving schematics and documentation soon. If there is some interest I can supply PCB layouts, the PC boards or even complete kits. I as also working on an entirely new modulation and coding method that will bring CCW-leyel performance to the arena of cemouter-to-computer communication. it will be a cift to the amateur radio community and CCW enthusiasts will be among the first to recogni5e and utilile it. More on this later. Delighted to make your acquaintance and read Your original NEWS. Keep up the good work and let me know how I can help acre. 73's Ray Publicity :::: Once again George Dobbs has come to our help and printed a short article I wrote for Sprat and this has resulted in a few acre members. Thanks George. Thanks also to Bernhard (DF3CT) who has translated the article into German and sent it to the GermanNational Radio Club so we hape it will get published there. r New members :::: The.following amateurs have expressed an interest in CCW. Otherwise a copy is enclosed. Please return this if you are actively taking part. Operating frequencies :::: We are suggesting that we L-se 30 KH: up from the bottom of each band as a base frequency and then haye a few extra frequencies around this spaced at I KH,z in, . rvals. Use the callino frequency and, if it is in use, move to one of the alternatives. An MC145151 with a few extra i.c's. should do this easily and I have an exoerimental circuit workinq. Experimental audio synthe5iser :::: I have recently simplified the circuit slightly by leaving out the autoscan feature which I don't think is really necessary and have changed the centre frequency to I KH7. as in the original CCW designs. It now has an I.e.d. display as a simple read-out in place of the full digital read-out of the old version. If anyone would like a revised circuit please let me know. Computers :::: Most of us now have computers and would like to use them for keying the CCW transmitter. Most computers have an RS232 input/output so it should be possible to store the output from this in an external buffer and key the transmitter from this. No doubt the external buffer can be omitted but this may make progressing of the computer necessary. Anyone like to design a suitable circuit? Information sheets :::: 23.Droitwich locked frequency standard by 63IRM - unpublished This circuit is based an the synchronous oscillator described in QEX for October 1987 (information sheet 14) and produces all frequencies required for CCW together with 5 KHz for the VE30BE keyboard and 8 KHz for possible use with the MC145151 r.f. synthesiser. They will be included with information sheet 22 requested in future. If anyone with sheet 22 would like copies please let me know. He is now building the VE30BE keyboard. 64VSG:Bob already has a good standard and hopes to build the next stage soon. GWOKSW:Alun has made what he calls a 'modest' start on construction. WU01:Jim is writing a program to emulate the Woodson filter on an AT clone. He would like to know if anyone has detailsof the stability of the Yaesu 757GXII. Would it be stable enough for CCW) Most ofthe new members have applied for data sheets but have not yet reported how building is progressing. A final word about costs :::: As we are now approaching the fifty se3bers mark it is getting a little expensive to photocopy and post copies of the News. Can I ask all U.K. members who wish to continue and who have not already sent r stamps or cash to let me have a few stamps. El will cover four issues. When Bert and I started this we did not expect so many to be interested and, although we are pleased to hear free you all , the cost of sending out News is getting a little too such to be free for all. A HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL AND I HOPE WE SHALL ALL MEET UP ON CCW IN 1990 73 de g3irm
